are these 'as is' straight out of the camera or did you do some processing on them ?

does your camera have sharpening or processing on by default

you get what you pay for (usually), as it is one of the cheapest lenses, quality will be adequate but not amazing

your D80 is a great camera and will shine much more with a better lens, unfortunately lenses aren't cheap, and decent mid/long range zooms are at least £300 upwards minimum

Well Im still learning! Also I will have more time to set up properly over the next couple of weeks, due to being on holiday, the photos arnt going to be "perfect" straight away. However its fun learning and trying new settings out.

Oh please anons posters, start leaving a name.....please

When the photos are enlarged they look quite nice although the red is somewhat disconcerting in my opinion. The depth of field is very shallow so the little bird is sharply focused only in parts. I wonder what f-stop you used when you shot the photos?

look up your lens online to get tips for best use, often they are sharpest at certain f-stops, i.e f6.3 or f8 etc

someone says it is sharp at 300mm and f7: http://www.pbase.com/cameras/tamron/af_70300_456_macro

or 70-135mm are excellent at f8/11

just a taster

and of course use a shutter speed at least as fast as the mm you are handholding at, i.e 300mm you need at least 1/300 shutter speed, unless you stick it on a beanbag or tripod

I've just noticed browsing this blog in firefox results in cutting off of long non-spaced words (like urls), looks fine in IE tho

Well I have been experimenting with backgrounds ths morning, the way I face there is a brick wall so will have to cover it up some how, as changing it after is not the easiest thing to to

One thing to be aware of here folks is that as we are nearing the winter solstice the lighting conditions and levels are pretty awful to say the least. Nic is perfectly aware of the need to get the shutter speed shorter for birds and to use a larger f stop to increase the depth of field on her shots. She is doing pretty damn good considering the current conditions.
