According to website I need a spanner another trip to b&q well I tired the bashing it trick again and I cant hear it drip so maybe it will hold out a wee bit longer. Fingers and toes crossed please...

Good for you for giving it a go Nic, but you will need a lot of strength, luck and patience! I do loads of my own diy, but I've never done a tap washer. I think I could though, but luckily I don't have to here being council, get them in (have done three times in as many years too) My kitchen tap was a disaster. The contractor they got to come when it wouldn't turn off at all didn't even put a new washer on, just turned the old one over, I couldn't believe it. He probably billed the council about £80 for that call out, crafty sod. Also the stop cock wouldn't turn off under the sink, and still doesn't completely. :)
